How to Make a Manicure Last Longer at Home

A pretty manicure is only as good as how long it stays on. These simple habits can add days to your polish.

  1. Start with clean, dry nails
Remove old polish completely and wipe nails with alcohol so oil doesn’t block adhesion.
  2. Always use a base coat
It helps polish stick and protects nails from staining.
  3. Apply thin layers
Two thin coats beat one thick coat every time. Let each layer dry before the next.
  4. Cap the tips
Brush a little polish over the free edge of each nail. That’s where chips usually start.
  5. Finish with a quality top coat
Reapply every 2–3 days to lock in shine and prevent peeling.
  6. Give nails a break from water
Wear gloves for dishes and cleaning. Water is one of the fastest ways to lift polish.

Pro tip:
A drop of cuticle oil every night keeps the skin around the nails healthy and makes the whole manicure look fresher.
